ARE TWO-WAY RADIOS REALLY SAFER THAN CELL PHONE WHEN DRIVING?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration banned talking and texting without a hands free device on January 2, 2012. The law excludes CB and two-way radios due to the simple, one-button push operation of a radio where drivers do not have to take their eyes off the road.

Recently, we had the opportunity to test this theory at a customer’s site. We set up a small test track to see if radios are really safer to use while driving in comparison to talking or texting on a cell phone.

The track was comprised of three main sections:

RIVERCOM 911 LOWER BADGER SITE COMPLETED

Day Wireless Systems recently completed an extensive renovation of RiverCom 911's Lower Badger site.

According to Director Jim Fosse, the project to improve the existing shelter and the moving of equipment was a success:

"Since this is the center of the radio communications, we wanted to have a site that reflected that this was the center of the remote sites. We've made it more resilient with generators and back-up generators. Because it is a mountaintop site, lightning is a big possibility. It was important that the site is grounded to the R56 standard." RiverCom 911 previously leased tower space from Day Wireless on an adjacent property and now owns this site outright.

Day Wireless will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony with RiverCom 911 and City/County officials on August 12th.

K-12 EDUCATION COMMUNICATIONS

CONNECT ANYONE ON ANY DEVICE,
ON OR OFF CAMPUS

Unified communications is one of the most pressing concerns for educators around the country. This is especially true when it comes to reaching personnel wherever they go, such as bus drivers on daily routes or superintendents traveling on business.

Today, educators tote an array of devices, from personal smartphones to digital tablets. Now, work group communication applications can be installed on virtually any device to extend the reach of school radios to those who may not carry them. This enables the principal at a convention or the superintendent off campus to talk on their smartphones with radio users at school.

Radios can be linked to smartphones, tablets, laptops, PCs, landlines and even intercoms on any public or private mobile data network, including Wi-Fi. Schools maximize the resources they already have and let staff keep their own devices and service plans.

2015 STUDY:
INNOVATIONS IN PLANT COMMUNICATIONS

OVERCOME CHALLENGES BY INTEGRATING PLANT COMMUNICATIONS
Manufacturers face another set of challenges in this rebounding market. More companies are shifting from outsourcing overseas to “next shoring” their products closer to where they are sold to improve efficiencies. And consumers, emboldened by social media, expect instant gratification and faster delivery times.

Whether it is filling job positions or filling customer orders, manufacturers need strategies to stay competitive. According to the 2015 Motorola Nationwide Manufacturing Survey, companies are looking for an integrated communications platform to help them increase workforce productivity, improve worker safety and reduce downtime. They want plant communications to connect all workers and devices seamlessly, and expedite communications between machines and people automatically.

EDUCATION CASE STUDY
CHARDON LOCAL SCHOOLS

CHARDON LOCAL SCHOOLS
CONNECTS DIRECTLY TO FIRST RESPONDERS
WITH AN INSTANT LINE OF COMMUNICATION

MOTOTRBO™ RADIOS AND SCHOOLSAFE™ OPEN THE CHANNEL TO EXCEPTIONAL INTEROPERABILITY

K-12 school districts around the country are seeking next generation communication solutions to help keep students and staff safe, especially as violence and crime in schools escalate. According to Dr. Michael Hanlon, superintendent of Chardon Local Schools, “Key to safety planning is improving the flow of information between first responders and on-site school personnel in an emergency.”

INSTANT, ACCURATE, TWO-WAY FLOW OF INFORMATION

Today, staff in Chardon Local Schools, on buses and in the field are linked to public safety in real time with interoperability that never existed before. “The system delivers a two-way flow of information that is critical during an incident,” says Chief Scott Niehus of the Chardon Police Department. “It gives us the ability to communicate what is happening on our end. SchoolSAFE gives the incident commander the ability to get accurate, timely information back to teachers, staff and bus drivers, who may be sequestered, as to what is occurring.”
