FCC Re-Banding May Affect You

The FCC recently auctioned the rights to this specific radio spectrum as part of a nationwide re-banding effort. If you are licensed to operate a radio system in the 1710-1755/2110-2155 MHz band, you will be affected.

As part of this re-banding effort, you now must abandon these frequencies and modify your existing system to operate in a different part of the radio spectrum. The auction winners are financially obligated to assist you in this migration. You may have already been contacted about this. If not, you soon will be notified.

We would like to offer our assistance in this enterprise. We have been contacted by some of the auction winners, who do not have adequate resources to manage the thousands of affected system operators. With offices in many of the western states, we specialize in design, installation, supply, and licensing of radio systems. We can help you work through this as painlessly as possible. Again, the auction winner in your area will pay all this service. This is an opportunity for you to update your radio system at no cost.

What are the rules for using FRS and GMRS radios?

FAMILY RADIO SERVICE (FRS)- NO FCC License required but the following applies:
 
Limited to 1/2 watt output and ERP
 
Eligibility: Used by family, friends, and associates to communicate within a neighborhood and while on group outings and has a communication range of less than one mile.
 
License documents are neither needed nor issued. You are provided authority to operate a FRS unit in places where the FCC regulates radio communications as long as you use only an unmodified FCC certified FRS unit. An FCC certified FRS unit has an identifying label placed on it by the manufacturer. There is no age or citizenship requirement.

GENERAL MOBILE RADIO SERVICE (GMRS)

• Limited to 5 ERP
• An individual must retain this type FCC License Authorization
• Users NOT eligible for this service are corporations, associations, and governmental entities etc.
• License term 5 years
